Daily Schedule

Children's Literature Seminar There are DAILY attendance points. Students should make EVERY attempt to be in attendance consistently. There are DAILY assignments. Students should expect to turn in SOMETHING class related EVERY DAY. This Seminar uses CCSS College and Career Readiness Standards for English Language Arts.	Day 1 W 9/5 LT: Review the importance of early reading. Summarize text. CCSS:R1-2,W4 Strategy: Marzano 2,7,9 Activity: Discuss Pre-Test and Post-Test Procedures Discuss course structure and expectations. Discuss the importance of reading for young children. Discuss children's literature readings. Assign: Begin Research Projects Read Intro and Ch. 1-3 of Read to Me and complete worksheet #1 Read "Begin with Books" and complete worksheet Read "Read It Again" and complete worksheet Read and Summarize the article on "Sesame Street"	Day 2 Th 9/6 LT:Differentiate among picture books, concept books, counting and alphabet books. CCSS:R3 Strategy: Marzano 1 Activity: View Power Point Presentations on: Wordless Picture Books Counting Books Alphabet Books Assign: Complete worksheets for Power Point Presentations Read Ch. 5-6 of Read to Me and complete worksheet #2 Begin Project #1--Cloth Book Begin Project #2--Counting Book Begin Project #3--Alphabet Book	Day 3 F 9/7 LT:Compare/Contrast myths and hero tales, legends, & folk tales. CCSS:R1-3,6,9-10,W3 Strategy: Marzano 1,6,8,9 Activity: View PP Presentations on: Myths and Hero Tales Folktales Compare/Contrast several editions of a fairy tale Beauty and the Beast Group Study Discuss Point of View/Perspective Discuss artistic media Begin viewing Hoodwinked Assign: Read Ch. 7-9 of Read to Me and complete Worksheet #3 Read "Notes on Artistic Media" and "Artistic Styles" Complete worksheets for Power Point Presentations Begin Project #4--Re-write a folktale or fairy tale from a different point of view. Day 5 T 9/11 LT: Discuss "Language Play" in Children's Literature. CCSS:W2,4 Strategy: Marzano 4,7 Activity: Discuss familiar titles and categorize Discuss Concept and Experience Books View Power Point Presentation on Concept Books Discuss Language Play activities Assign: Project #5--Concept Book (Experience Book) Complete worksheet for Power Point Presentation Read article on "Language Play" and complete worksheet Project #6--Language Play Activity (GAME)	Day 6 W9/12 LT:Explain the value using books to present sensitive issues to children. CCSS:R4, S/L2, 3 Strategy: Marzano 9 Activity: View Storyline Online! Assign: Review at least THREE Read-Aloud stories from the Storyline Online website and EVALUATE each Work on Projects
Day 10 T 9/18 LT:Relate reading to daily activities. CCSS: R10 Strategy:Marzano 3 Activity: Discuss sensitive issues and how to introduce them to children at age-appropriate levels Review books with sensitive content Assign: Read "A Letter to My Children" Read "Children in Crisis: Books Can Help" Read "Struggling with the Meaning of Tolerance" Summarize and respond to articles	Day 11 W 9/19 LT: Demonstrate knowledge of local authors.
